Parent Payment Terms

Last updated 1 Aug 2026

The short version

Your school uses Cosine to send invoices and collect fees. We are the technology behind the payment, not the school.

  • Your school sets the fees. We do not decide what you owe. Questions about the amount, the deadline, or a refund go to your school.
  • We handle the payment. We send the invoice, provide the account you pay into, match your payment to your child's record, and send reminders if it is unpaid.
  • We are not a bank and we are not a lender. We do not hold your money. Your payment goes to an account provided by a licensed Nigerian financial institution.
  • We never charge you without telling you. If a fee is added to your invoice, it appears as a separate line on the invoice.

These terms explain how the payment side works. They are between you and Cosine. They do not change any agreement you have with your school.

1. Who we are

Cosine Technologies Limited provides the Cosine platform. Where these terms say "we", "us", or "our", they mean Cosine Technologies Limited.

Where these terms say "your school", they mean the school or organisation that issued your invoice.

Where they say "you", they mean the parent, guardian, sponsor, or other person named on the invoice or making the payment.

2. What these terms cover

These terms apply when you:

  • receive an invoice or payment reminder issued through Cosine;
  • make a payment through Cosine or into an account we provided; or
  • use any part of Cosine made available to you as a payer.

By making a payment or continuing to use the payment link or account we provide, you accept these terms.

These terms do not replace your agreement with your school. Your school's own terms govern enrolment, fees, refunds, and everything else about your child's education.

3. What we do and do not do

We do:

  • issue invoices on your school's instruction and in your school's name;
  • provide a bank account for you to pay into, held by a licensed financial institution;
  • match your payment to the right invoice and record it;
  • send reminders about unpaid invoices, on your school's instruction; and
  • where your school asks us to, contact you to discuss a payment arrangement or a scholarship option.

We do not:

  • set, review, or approve the fees you are charged;
  • decide whether you are entitled to a refund, a discount, or more time to pay;
  • hold your money, take deposits, or pay interest;
  • lend you money or offer you credit;
  • report you to a credit bureau, list you with any credit registry, or share your payment history with lenders for their own purposes;
  • pass your details to debt collection agencies; or
  • take legal action against you.

If a fee is wrong, unfair, or you think you should not have to pay it, that is a conversation with your school. We cannot resolve it, and we will not act as a go-between on the amount itself.

4. Making a payment

4.1 Pay using the details on your invoice. Your invoice shows the account to pay into and any reference you should use. Using the details exactly as given is the single biggest thing that helps your payment reach the right place quickly.

4.2 How we match payments. A payment arrives with the payer's name, the amount, and any reference. We use this to work out which invoice it relates to. This is automatic, and it is usually right.

4.3 Sometimes it goes wrong. A payment may be matched to the wrong invoice, or not matched at all, if:

  • you pay from an account in a different name;
  • you leave out the reference or use the wrong one;
  • you pay a different amount from the one invoiced; or
  • you combine several invoices into one payment.

If a payment does not show up against your invoice within 2 business days, contact your school, or write to us at hello@trycosine.com with the date, amount, and the account you paid from. We will trace it and correct the record.

4.4 Partial payments are credited against the invoice as received, and the balance stays outstanding.

4.5 Bank charges. Your bank may charge you for a transfer. That charge is between you and your bank.

5. Fees

5.1 Cosine charges your school a fee for collecting payments.

5.2 Your school chooses whether to absorb that fee or add it to your invoice. If it is added to your invoice, it will appear as a separate, clearly labelled line item, and you will see it before you pay. We will never add a charge that is not shown on the invoice.

5.3 If you have a question about a fee shown on your invoice, ask your school, since your school decided whether to pass it on.

6. Reminders and unpaid invoices

6.1 If an invoice is unpaid after its due date, we will send reminders by email, and where your school has enabled it, by SMS or messaging app. Reminders are sent on your school's instruction and continue for up to 42 days from the due date, unless the invoice is paid or your school stops them.

6.2 If you have paid and are still getting reminders, tell us at hello@trycosine.com and we will check. Please include the payment date, amount, and the account you paid from.

6.3 If an invoice stays unpaid after the reminder period, your school may ask our team to contact you to discuss a payment plan, or to tell you about a scholarship or fund option if your school offers one. This is a conversation, not a demand.

6.4 What happens if that does not resolve it. We hand the matter back to your school. From that point it is entirely your school's decision what to do. Anything your school does about unpaid fees, including any decision about your child's place, is your school's decision and not ours.

6.5 What we will not do. We will not take legal action against you, engage debt collectors, report you to a credit bureau, contact your employer, or contact anyone other than the people named on the invoice.

6.6 Stopping messages. You can ask us to stop non-essential messages at any time. We will still need to send you invoices and receipts, because those are records of what you owe and what you have paid.

7. Refunds

7.1 Refunds are your school's decision. If you are owed money back, your school decides whether, when, and how much.

7.2 Once your school approves a refund, we process it back to the account you paid from where possible. Timing depends on the banks involved.

7.3 Where a refund is processed through Cosine, any Cosine fee you paid on that payment is refunded too, so you receive the full amount you paid. Charges applied by your bank or the payment network are not ours and are not refunded by us.

7.4 If a payment fails or is reversed before it reaches your school, no Cosine fee applies.

8. If something goes wrong on our side

8.1 If we misapply your payment, take the wrong amount, or make an error in your payment record, tell us and we will fix it. That includes correcting the record, crediting the right invoice, and returning anything taken in error.

8.2 We are responsible for our own mistakes in handling your payment. We are not responsible for:

  • the fees your school charges, or your school's decisions about them;
  • your school's conduct, or any dispute between you and your school;
  • delays caused by banks or payment networks; or
  • payments sent to details you were not given by us.

8.3 Nothing in these terms removes any right you have under Nigerian law, including under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act. If any part of these terms is found to be unfair or unenforceable, the rest still applies.

9. Your information

We handle your personal information as described in our Privacy Policy.

In short: your school decides what information about you and your child is recorded, and we handle it on their instruction. We use your payment details to process payments, match them, and send you invoices, receipts, and reminders.

We do not sell your information. We do not use it for advertising. We do not use your child's information for marketing or profiling.

To correct or delete information about you or your child, ask your school first, since they control the record. If they do not act, write to security@trycosine.com and we will follow it up and tell you the outcome. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

10. Keeping your account safe

If you have a Cosine login, keep your password private and tell us at security@trycosine.com if you think someone else has access.

Be careful of fraud. We will never ask you to pay into an account that is not shown on your invoice, and we will never ask for your PIN, your full card details, your one-time password, or your online banking password. If someone contacts you claiming to be from Cosine and asks for any of these, it is not us. Report it to security@trycosine.com.

11. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handled your payment, write to hello@trycosine.com. Please include your name, your child's school, and the payment or invoice concerned.

We will:

  • acknowledge within 2 business days;
  • give you an answer or an update within 10 business days; and
  • aim to resolve it within 30 days, and tell you if we need longer.

If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Consumer Protection Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria, or for anything about your personal information, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Complaints about fees, refunds, or your child's education go to your school.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version is always at this page, with the date at the top. If we make a change that affects you materially, we will tell you before it takes effect.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Nigerian courts have jurisdiction.
